When showing one of our alternative jackets, the first thing we are always asked is “So what do I wear this with?” It's really pretty simple. With dressier clothing, wear it how you’d typically wear a classic sportcoat. For more casual days, swap it out any time you might otherwise wear a chore coat or cardigan. Below are a couple different ways I like to wear our field jacket and slack jacket.
The Field Jacket
We first made this deep green field jacket for a client. It is the only garment I’ve ever made for someone else where as soon as it was finished I immediately commissioned the same piece as a showroom sample. It’s such a beautiful green, and the fabric is a unique wool/ cashmere/ silk/ linen blend with a light flannel nap to it that is perfect for Fall through Spring. Through the months that I’ve had this jacket, I have been wearing it more than any other jacket, by far. On weekends and traveling, I’ll pair it with jeans, a tee, and sneakers, and it works just as well with grey flannels and striped dress shirt. As shown in one of the outfits below, a monochromatic palette of black and grey throughout the rest of the outfit lends a modern and chic feel.
The Slack Jacket
The slack jacket – our original alternative jacket – is every bit as wearable. This Fall we’ve often used a pure wool jersey from Drapers in Italy, and I’m especially happy with this dark brown version. Folks often think the navy and charcoal options are too dressy for how they view the slack jacket, and brown is a flattering and easy-to-wear option that is perfect for a knockaround cardigan-like piece.
In one of the outfits I’m wearing it with a cotton/cashmere twill chino and a brushed cotton plaid bespoke shirt. You could just as easily swap the button-down for a crew-neck sweater. The idea is casually elegant. Another outfit pairing includes wool/cashmere olive green flannels, a cotton/cashmere tattersall shirt, and madder silk scarf. This tends to be as dressy as I push this jacket, although in a pinch you could pair it with a tie and it would be just fine.
